Character limits worth knowing
Most platforms count characters, not words, and most count every character including spaces and punctuation. A few quirks matter: X counts URLs as 23 characters regardless of length and most emoji as two; an SMS drops from 160 to 70 characters as soon as it contains a single non-GSM character such as an emoji or a curly quote; and Google does not enforce a title tag limit but truncates what it displays at roughly 600 pixels, which is about 60 characters.

Does the counter count emoji as one character? +
It counts visible characters, so most emoji count as one. Platforms differ: X counts most emoji as two characters, and a flag or a family emoji can be four or more code points internally. The platform bars here use each platform’s own rules where they are documented.
What counts as a word? +
Any run of letters or numbers separated by spaces or punctuation. Hyphenated words count as one. This matches Microsoft Word for ordinary prose.
How is reading time calculated? +
Word count divided by 230 words per minute, the average adult reading speed for English, rounded up to the nearest minute.
Is my text stored? +
No. Counting happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
