Alt Typist exists because typing a degree sign, an accented letter or an emoji should not take a web search and three tabs. We put every method for every character in one place: the Windows Alt code, the Mac shortcut, the phone keyboard trick, the Word and Google Docs steps, and the HTML, CSS and code escapes. If you just need the character, one click copies it.

Who runs this site

Alt Typist is owned and operated by Blame Media Pty Ltd, an independent publisher based in Sydney, Australia. Blame Media builds free reference and tool websites, including PrintBlame and PaperOrb, and has done so since 2024. The site is run by a small team, not a content farm, and every page follows the same editorial rules.

How we keep it accurate

Accuracy is the whole product, so the data is generated rather than typed:

• Character names, code points and blocks come straight from the Unicode Character Database and are regenerated when Unicode publishes a new version.
• Windows Alt codes are computed from the CP437 and Windows-1252 code page tables, never copied from other sites.
• HTML entities come from the WHATWG named character reference list.
• Keyboard shortcuts are checked on current versions of Windows 11, macOS, iOS and Android before they are published. Where a shortcut differs by layout or app, we say so rather than guess.
• Explanatory text is drafted with editorial tools and reviewed against the data. Anything we cannot verify is left out.

If you find a code or shortcut that does not work, tell us on the contact page with the page URL and your device. Corrections are usually live within a few days, and we credit useful ones in the page's change history.

How the site is funded

Alt Typist is free to use and always will be. It may carry display advertising and affiliate links in future. Advertisers never influence which symbols, codes or methods we publish, and any affiliate relationship is disclosed in our terms of service and privacy policy.

Privacy in one line

No accounts, no tracking cookies and nothing to sign up for. The only data stored is the list of symbols you recently copied, and that stays in your own browser. Details are in the privacy policy.
