Privacy policy
Last updated: 25 September 2026. This policy explains what Alt Typist ("we", "us", "our"), a website operated by Blame Media Pty Ltd of Sydney, Australia, collects when you use https://alttypist.com, why, and what rights you have. The short version: we do not ask you to create an account, we set no tracking cookies, and the only thing the site stores is a list of symbols you recently copied, in your own browser.

2. What we collect and why
2.1 Information you give us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the content of your message. We use it to reply, to fix the problem you reported, and to keep a record of the correspondence. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the site and answering enquiries, or performance of a contract where you have asked us to do something.
2.2 Information stored in your browser
The "recently copied" feature saves the symbols you copy to your browser's local storage so they reappear on your next visit. Some tools also remember a preference, such as the keyboard layout you picked. This data never leaves your device, is not sent to us, and you can clear it with the Clear button or by clearing site data in your browser.
2.3 Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand which pages are useful. It is cookie-free and privacy-focused: it records aggregated page views, referring site, country, browser and device type, and page performance timings. It does not use client-side state, does not fingerprint you, and does not store your IP address. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding and improving the site.
2.4 Server logs
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address, requested URL, browser type and time of request to deliver pages, cache content and protect against abuse. Cloudflare retains these logs for a short period under its own privacy policy. We do not receive individual logs.
2.5 What we do not collect
No accounts, no passwords, no payment details, no newsletter sign-up, no location tracking, no advertising identifiers, no cross-site tracking, no selling or renting of personal data, ever.
3. Cookies
Alt Typist sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to distinguish humans from bots when protecting the site; it contains no personal data and expires within 30 minutes. If we introduce advertising in future, this section will list every cookie the ad partner sets and give you the consent controls required in your region before any such cookie is used.
4. Advertising and affiliate links
The site currently shows no advertising. We may add display advertising or affiliate links to fund the site. If we do, we will name the partners here, explain what data they process, disclose affiliate relationships on the pages where they appear, and show a consent banner where the law requires one. Advertisers have no influence on the information we publish.
5. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site: Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, content delivery, security, analytics and email routing) and our email provider for messages you send us. Each processes data on our instructions under its own data processing terms. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it. We never sell personal data.
6. International transfers
We are based in Australia. Cloudflare serves the site from data centres worldwide, including the United States and the European Union, and email correspondence may be stored on servers outside your country. Where data leaves the EEA or the UK, the transfer relies on the provider's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
7. How long we keep data
- Email correspondence: up to 3 years, so we can follow up on corrections and requests, then deleted.
- Analytics: aggregated only; Cloudflare retains the underlying data for a limited period and we retain no per-visitor records.
- Local storage: on your device until you clear it.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS only, with security headers that block third-party scripts and framing. Because we hold almost no personal data, the main data we protect is email correspondence, which sits in access-controlled accounts with two-factor authentication.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar laws. In practice they are the same for everyone: you can ask what personal data we hold about you (for most visitors, none), ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, ask for a copy in a portable format, and complain to a regulator (in Australia the OAIC; in the UK the ICO; in the EU your national authority; in California the CPPA). Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights, and we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in California law.
10. Children
The site is a general reference suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Because we collect none from anyone, there is nothing to delete; if a child has emailed us, we will remove the message on request from a parent or guardian.
11. Third-party websites
Guides sometimes link to other websites, such as manufacturer support pages. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; check their policies before providing any information.
12. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the site changes, for example if we add advertising. The date at the top tells you when it last changed, and material changes will be noted on this page for at least 30 days.
