About Welsh letters

Welsh uses the circumflex (to bach) on all seven vowels including w and y, and occasionally the acute, grave and diaeresis.

The UK Extended layout on Windows types ŵ and ŷ with Alt Gr+6 then the letter; on a Mac, Option+I then W or Y works on the British layout.

ŵ and ŷ have no Alt codes; in Word type 0175 or 0177 then Alt+X.

How to switch your keyboard to Welsh

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Welsh (or open the options for your language and add the United Kingdom Extended keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Welsh or British. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Welsh. Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Welsh. Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
