About Maltese letters

Maltese adds ċ, ġ, ż with a dot above and ħ with a stroke. The h without a stroke is silent.

The Maltese 47-key and 48-key layouts put the four letters on the number row and right of P.

In Word, type 010B then Alt+X for ċ, 0121 for ġ, 0127 for ħ and 017C for ż.

How to switch your keyboard to Maltese

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Maltese (or open the options for your language and add the Maltese 47-Key or 48-Key keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Maltese. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Maltese. Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Maltese. Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
