About Icelandic letters

Icelandic keeps the old letters þ (thorn) and ð (eth) and uses the acute on all vowels plus æ and ö.

The Icelandic layout has þ, ð, æ and ö as dedicated keys; the acute is a dead key next to the right Shift.

Alt codes exist for all of them: þ is Alt+0254, ð is Alt+0240.

How to switch your keyboard to Icelandic

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Icelandic (or open the options for your language and add the Icelandic keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Icelandic. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Icelandic. Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Icelandic. Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
